Morning After: Going Won and 0

The Washington Capitals needed to get a win last night, and they did exactly that – and they did it in fine fashion, allowing Charlie Lindgren to have a relatively light night (although a few of his 16 saves, particularly in the third period, were very good ones) and playing a clean, simple game to capture a crucial two points.

Three Takeaways:

  • The Caps held the Bruins to just 16 shots last night, the fewest Boston has put on net all season. The Bruins’ previous low in that department? 18…against these very same Capitals back in February. Impressive on both counts, but even more so considering the Caps’ defense has been decimated by injury of late.
  • Speaking of that defense, it has been resting on the shoulders of John Carlson, and those shoulders have been more than capable of carrying the burden. Carlson skated almost 30 minutes last night, the fourth time in his last five games that he’s topped 27 minutes in a game, and all he did was this:
  • Really not a fan of this hit on Beck Malenstyn by Trent Frederic, which was shockingly (/sarcasm) not called. Second-straight game with this kind of crap.
