- From Elias: Alex Ovechkin’s second goal of the night was the game-winner in the Capitals‘ 5-3 victory at Columbus on Tuesday. Ovechkin also scored twice, including the game-winning goal, in Washington’s last game, a 4-0 shutout over the Maple Leafs on Sunday. This is the seventh time that Ovechkin scored the game-winning goal in each of two consecutive team games in one season, but it’s the first time he’s done it since Oct. 9-11, 2010, in Capitals wins on home ice against New Jersey and Ottawa. Before Ovechkin did it this week, the last Washington player to record back-to-back game-winners was Mike Green on April 11-13, 2013.
