Washington Capitals 2023-24 Season Preview

The longest summer in years is mercifully coming to an end — so with the 2023-24 season right around the corner, it’s time to break down a busy summer and look ahead to what could be an interesting year.

Key Additions/Subtractions

  • Additions: Max Pacioretty, Joel Edmundson, Matthew Phillips, Hardy Häman Aktell
  • Subtractions: Conor Sheary, Craig Smith, Matt Irwin, Gabriel Carlsson, Henrik Borgstrom, Connor Brown

The Capitals made a mini splash of sorts at the start of free agency, swinging a trade for blueliner Edmundson and then inking forward Max Pacioretty to a one-year deal. Judging Pacioretty’s impact will have to wait until he fully recovers from surgery to repair his second Achilles’ tendon tear… and unfortunately, judgment on Edmundson will have to wait, as well, as the veteran defenseman broke his hand early in camp and is out until at least November…
