The Noon Number: Transatlanticism

16 – Consecutive games for the Caps without a regulation loss to an Atlantic Division team, as they’ve gone 13-0-3 over that span, which dates back to December 9. Here’s how those 16 games split out:

Opponent Caps’ Record
Boston 1-0-0
Buffalo 2-0-0
Detroit 2-0-0
Florida 1-0-1
Montreal 1-0-1
Ottawa 2-0-1
Tampa Bay 2-0-0
Toronto 2-0-0

The Caps will face the Atlantic’s fourth-place team, Boston, tonight in the season’s penultimate game.

Incidentally, the Bruins are expected to start Tuukka Rask in goal. Rask’s 3.01 career goals against average against Washington is his highest mark against any opponent he has faced more than five times (his GAA against Anaheim is 3.34 in five appearances). Overall, Rask has a 1-5-3/3.01/.893 line against the Caps.

Meanwhile, Braden Holtby is 6-2-1/1.80/.948 against the B’s in the regular season (and we all know what he did against them in the playoffs), and will likely be looking to join old friend Cristobal Huet as just the second goalie since the start of the 1987-88 season to shutout Boston three times in a season.
