The Noon Number: Sailing Through the Atlantic

71.9 – The Caps’ win percentage against the Atlantic Division over the last two seasons, tops in the League. Since the start of the 2014-15 campaign, the Caps have faced off against the East’s other division 32 times and compiled a record of 23-5-4 (which also marks the best points percentage). Their 23 wins against Atlantic Division foes are the most by any team outside of that division, trailing only Montreal and Tampa (25 apiece) for the most overall.

Over that span, the Caps have outscored their opponents 89-58, with a ridiculous power-play percentage of 30% (also unsurprisingly the best in the League) that accounted for 29 of those 89 goals scored, while killing off 87% of the extra-man chances by Atlantic opponents (tied for fifth-best).

So far this year, the Caps have gone 7-1-0 against the Atlantic, with the one loss in regulation their first since falling 6-2 in Toronto on November 29, 2014. That loss? A 1-0 blanking earlier this season at the hands of tonight’s opponent, the Detroit Red Wings.
