77 – Number of points earned by the Capitals through 63 games this season… which is equal to their point total at this point last season. The Caps have even posted an identical record through those 63 games as they did in 2017-18, once again going 35-21-7 over that span.
That’s not where the similarities end, either. Their goal differential this season is +18 (210 goals for, 192 against), compared to +14 last year (202 goals for, 188 against), and their five-on-five shot-attempt percentage is almost even, 47.83 this year compared to 47.96 a season ago.
Power play? 21.7%, compared to 21.9% in 2017-18. Penalty kill is down a bit from last year’s 79.4%, checking in at 78.5%. They’ve taken 256 penalties through 63 games this season; last season it was 262.
