47 – Number of games in NHL history that have finished 0-0 and decided by a shootout since the shootout was first implemented back in 2005-06. Last night’s game between the Caps and Islanders was the latest entry into this surprisingly small club, with the last occurrence coming a little over a year ago – before the pause – between the Kings and Maple Leafs.
The Caps have only participated in three of these low-scoring contests dating back to 2005 (their first 0-0 game not coming until 2014 when they dropped one to the Lightning) – and last night marked their first win.
