The Noon Countdown: Playing Catch-Up

23 – Number of days remaining until the 2015-16 season. But it’s also…

…the number of times the Caps trailed going into the third period of a game last season. With just two wins in those 23 games (an overall record of 2-18-3), the Caps had one of the worst win percentages of any team in the League when behind after two periods. In fact, the Penguins were the only other playoff team to be below 10% (and they were way below, checking in at a whopping 0% – 0-18-5 – when down after two periods).

The good news is that while the Caps struggled to win games in which they trailed after 40, they didn’t actually do it all that often. Their 23 games were tied for the second-lowest mark with fellow Metropolitan dwellers Pittsburgh and the Islanders (with the Rangers checking in with 21).
