The Noon Countdown: One Man Advantage

57 – Number of days remaining until the Caps open the 2015-16 season. But it’s also…

…the number of five-on-four goals scored by the Caps in 2014-15, second in the League to Detroit’s 63; that accounted for a whopping 95% of their total power-play output last season, the fourth-highest percentage (behind Boston, Buffalo, Edmonton and New Jersey). The Caps scored just three goals with the two-man advantage last year, and none at four-on-three.

Of course, some of that comes down to a lack of opportunities. The Caps went on the power play just 237 times last season, 24th in the League, with 12 five-on-three chances, four at four-on-three… and exactly zero in overtime.
