The Noon Countdown: Blueline Duo

29 – Number of days remaining until the start of the Capitals’ 2023-24 season. But it’s also…

…the number of points scored by both Nick Jensen and John Carlson last season.

For Carlson, it was another strong offensive season that unfortunately was cut short by his injury at the end of December; his 29 points were the third-lowest total of his career, but that’s in only 40 games played. In fact, both his points-per-game rate (.73) and his points/60 rate (1.9) were the sixth-best of his career, and the former slotted him in the top-20 among all NHL blueliners.

Jensen, on the other hand, had something of a breakout season offensively, setting a new career high in points – demolishing the previous high he set a season earlier – and tying his career high (also from 2021-22) in goals with five.

The duo were tied for second in scoring among Caps’ blueliners, trailing only now-former Capital Erik Gustafsson (38 points).
