Morning After: Miro’s Moment

Another close game, another big win for the Caps – and a deserved one, this time in overtime courtesy of Dylan Strome. Sure, ideally the Capitals would refrain from letting Metro division opponents get points in their wins, but the fact that these games keep going into extra-point territory is just a reminder of how tight this division is (and will likely remain the rest of the season).

The Caps controlled play through most of the first two periods, slipping a little in the third before finding the back of the net in overtime, courtesy of the power play (!).

Four Takeaways:

  • Another strong game for Darcy Kuemper. Loving this journey for him.
  • Don’t look now, but the Caps have scored a power-play goal in three of their last four games…which means they have officially (for now) hit double digits in power play percentage and are officially (for now) no longer the worst power play in the league!
  • Definitely did not have “Joel Edmundson scores his first goal of the season before Nick Jensen and Rasmus Sandin” on my bingo card, but here we are.
  • He only played about 10 minutes last night, but Ivan Miroshnichenko didn’t look outclassed on any of his shifts, had some great chances, and even made a good defensive play or two – enough to get all of us excited about what the future holds for the kid. And knowing as we do the journey it took him to get here, it’s just incredibly heartwarming to see him get to make his NHL debut. Welcome to the NHL, Miro!
