Morning After: Kraken, Released

The Kraken are the hottest team in the league for a reason and they showed it last night. Their depth players were dealing out snipes and nasty passes. Caps on the other end couldn’t buy a goal. Usually it’s because they don’t get the chances but give Caps credit they were trying but Joey Daccord came up with some ten bell saves.

Scoring remains a big issue with the Caps. When they have scored two or more goals this season they have ONE regulation loss. One. That’s crazy. They just need to find a way to score more than one goal a game. Unfortunately, if they haven’t figured it out now there might not be a way to score more goals.

Three Takeaways:

  • 17. That’s the number of goals that the four Seattle Kraken goal scorers had last night combined going into the game. Brandon Tanev, who had two assists all season, had two primary assists in the game, one of them a highlight sauce pass. It’s ridiculous how often it’s the least impactful guys that all the sudden turn into Wayne Gretzky when they play the Caps.
  • Nick Jensen had a strong game for the Caps. He was great at both ends of the ice with his smooth skating, good reads, and tough on the puck mentality. He’s had an up and down season so seeing him being one of the better players of the game is a good sign.
  • It was a clunker but it was great to see Max Pacioretty score his first goal in almost a year to a day. It’s a great story. The Caps desperately need goals and Max can provide them. Hopefully as the rust wears off he can put more and more in the net.
