Morning After: Grounding the Flyers

What an up and down game for the Caps. With the season on the line, they went into a 0-2 hole after the first period after not generating much offense of their own. But after an Alex Ovechkin strike in the second, they turned it on and didn’t let up, scoring five straight goals to take the win.

Throughout the lineup, everyone stepped up and everyone seemed to pitch in, one way or another. Spencer Carbery continues to prove he was the right coach to take the reins, and he has a bright future in the NHL. It’s going to be fun to see what Carbery can do going forward.

Three Takeaways:

  • After three goals in his first two games since his callup, Lapierre got moved up to top-line center to play alongside his childhood hero in Ovechkin. He finished the night with two assists and was above average in possession. All in all, it was a great night for the kids.
  • There were some big performances last night, but it was nice to see the offense get spread around throughout the lineup – the second time in three games where at least 10 Caps’ players picked up at least a point.
  • Charlie Lindgren got beat up (along with his team) Tuesday night. They both needed a big bounceback performance, and they got it. Lindgren turned aside 21 of 23 shots faced, including a huge save that resulted in a goal the other way. Love that for the Outlaw.
