Capitals vs. Toronto: Leaf Blown(out); Washington loses 7-3

Plus: Alex Ovechkin goals. Always. Only 49 to catch Wayne Gretzky.

Minus: Opening period goals. Two periods in a row the Capitals gave up a goal within the first minute. The second period goal was a slap to the face as the Capitals were not able to keep the momentum of the first period. And the second half of the third period.

Key Moment: The minute and sixteen seconds after Ovechkin got his second goal. The Captain’s goal again gave some life to the team, but they then proceeded to give up two goals in 78 seconds. Gross.

Player of the Game: Alex Ovechkin. Who else?

Final Thoughts:  A win could have put the Capitals in the last Wild Card spot, but it was not to be. Early and late-period goals by the Leafs killed the Capitals. The early period goals gave momentum to the Maple Leafs forcing the Capitals to play catch up. The team did show some fight. Three times they were able to make it a one goal game but the Capitals would not come any closer than that. It was not a good game from Charlie Lindgren, not all of that was on him. But in a night where they needed strong goal tending. They did not get it.

But hey, at least this was play was fun:
