- Plus: The Caps came out in the first period looking pretty sharp, and the fact that they trailed 2-1 after that opening frame could easily be chalked up to a few bad defensive miscues in an otherwise solid period. There were plenty of reasons to feel not awful about the rest of the game.
- Minus: The, uh…rest of the game.
Key Moment: With John Carlson’s late first-period tally, the Caps seemingly had all the momentum. Then, less than two minutes into the second, the returning Josh Norris scored his second goal of the night – and things just went downhill from there.
Caps Player of the Game: John Carlson is the only one to find the back of the net, so John Carlson gets the award. Congrats, buddy.
Final Thoughts
This one very quickly went from “okay, they look decent” to “well, the score looks worse than their play” to “dear god, someone get the lifeboats” really quickly. Too many defensive fumbles, too much undisciplined play, and not nearly enough from anyone in white – from the stars on down.
Growing pains are to be expected with a new coaching staff and a lot of turnover from last year, but some changes need to be made soon or this is going to be a very long, very painful season.
Back at it on Saturday in Montreal.
To quote the Sens fans in attendance tonight…woo.
