That wasn’t very pretty except for us moving into 8th or 9th spot for lottery. I would have loved to see the kid get a few minutes in net at the end. DK wasn’t especially sharp.
Gibson should start a game or 2 by the end of the year. Let’s see what the kid has
Kuemper is a good goalie but he’s the first guy I’m looking to move with that contract. Caps are going to need that money elsewhere. Lindgren fell off a cliff like a lot of the team but I don’t think that’s his level.
Three key facts to remember going into the off-season:
Ovi will be 38 years old at the start of the 23/24 season;
He will likely be faced with his eighth head coach;
Backstrom might retire;
Oshie might retire;
Mantha will likely be gone;
Kuzy could possibly be gone;
Tom Wilson and John Carlson will both benefit from the off-season;
I love NB19 but, he needs to retire, guessing he won’t. I wouldn’t & miss the 895 celebrations. I would be shocked if Oshie retires, see above NB19 note. Oshie is effective in his 55 games a year. Mantha needs a change, if we can get anything with no retained salary, trade him. Kuzy is a 1-2c which are HARD to find. I doubt he goes anywhere. See NB19 note. Without Kuzy (and GMBM doesn’t find a replacement) we have 17 as 1c, 26 as 4c. 19 & 24 as 2-3c, yuck.
You realize that if Nick retires he forfeits $18.4 million in salary? Would you do that?
Bleak day. I’m afraid it doesn’t portend well for next year unless Mac pulls off something insane in the summer.
Granted, a lot may be due to injuries to Carlson and others (and Nicky and Tom W. not up to speed yet) but wondering if the second half severe downturn is the “real” Caps team for the immediate future. And next year will be really really bad, as in contention for the draft lottery bad. (Ovi’s own productivity had really slowed down although a fair amount of it was games he missed for his father’s death.)

Well…brutal to say the least. We are going to be attending the last 3 home games. This year, I have either give away or sold….about 60% of my tickets. Poor fan, I know…but we did renew for next year. Besides the Ovechkin challenge to Gretzky, what else is there? Really…..looks horribly bleak to me. Oshie hurting, Backstrom ineffective, aging roster, players underperforming (Mantha/Kuzy). I cannot envision next year above 80 total points. Poor but not poor enough to get a truly marvelous player.

Yes, sad statement – but so true. I’m just so happy that we DID win the Cup in 2018. Marvelous memories. We attended every home playoff game…so much fun. Still say the BEST Caps game was game 6 against Tampa Bay. We were down in the series 3 to 2 games. Unbelievable game.
We attended nearly all of them except when I had an out of town trip planned for Game 5 of the second round.
I’m thrilled we won the Cup in 2019 also. We attended all the home games of that series except Game 5 in Round 2 when I had an out-of-town trip.

We were going to go, but I’m swamped, so I got rid of the tickets.
Probably was a better decision. Now I’m wondering whether I’d be better off donating my tickets for the last week of the season to service members rather than going to the game. But knowing me, I’ll probably go to the game.

It’s baffling.

I have a WordPress account but it’s for a totally different site than this one. It’s from a different E-mail address than my Japers E-mail. So, of course, the new Japers doesn’t recognize my WordPress account. It’s like you have to be a Japers “insider”/administrator to log in. There is no provision for “new” users to join the site.
