Florida Panthers vs Washington Capitals | ||||
Team | P1 | P2 | P3 | Total |
Florida Panthers | 0 | 2 | 2 | 4 |
Washington Capitals | 1 | 1 | 0 | 2 |
Current Status: Final |
Plus: Third game in a row that Alex Ovechkin has scored a goal.
Minus: Penalties. Caps put the Penalty Kill on the ice far too often with 6 penalties.
Key Moment: The Tom Wilson penalty late in the second period. The extra shot from Tom cost the team the lead. Despite being outshot 25-17 in the second period the Capitals were able to get the lead with a goal from Anthony Mantha on a nice play from Michael Sgarbossa and Aliaksei Protas. That was washed away after the Panthers quickly scored on another high to low play by Sam Reinhart.
Caps Player of the Game: Darcy Kuemper. The Capitals again made his job harder by giving up 41 shots on goal. They gave up at least 11 shots in every period, while unable to match the shot volume.
Final Thoughts: Other than a penalty filled first period the Capitals didn’t have much sustained pressure on offense, forcing Darcy Kuemper to stand on his head. They were in the most of the game, but the Capitals were not able to match Florida’s offensive pressure.
Also, congrats to Rasmus Sandin on picking up a primary assist on Ovechkin’s goal, playing in his 200th game:
