The Jets struck first in this contest. Big Dustin Byfuglien isolated Andre Burakovsky and made him look foolish with a gorgeous spin-o-rama move off the boards. Big Buff then found Mark Scheifele, who took a couple hacks at the puck before knocking it in.
But Nicklas Backstrom responded for the Capitals with 22 seconds left in the frame, getting loose in the crease and stuffing the puck past Hellebuyck to knot this at 1-1 after one.
