Plus: A lot to pull here, but I’ll focus on how comfortable Ivan Miroshnichenko looked in his much anticipated NHL debut.
Minus: After holding pretty strong on defense throughout, the Caps really let the Isles do (almost) anything they wanted in the third.
Key Moment:
Caps Player of the Game: Aliaksei Protas stood out to me the most on a line that was responsible for both of the Caps’ goals in regulation, picking up the primary helper on Hendrix Lapierre’s tally and providing a screen that helped Joel Edmundson’s blast from deep get through Semyon Varlamov. He also made some pretty timely plays on the puck throughout. His development’s been really fun to track this year.
Final Thoughts: Before the season I mentioned how many options Spencer Carbery has at his disposal in regards to the amount of forwards that are gonna have an opportunity to show they deserve to stick. That really shined through tonight with Connor McMichael joining TJ Oshie and Sonny Milano in the press box, as Lapierre and Miroshnichenko were able to fit in well. Some really tough decisions are coming soon with Pacioretty close to his return.
