Capitals vs. Canucks Recap: Caps Drop Hard Fought Battle In Overtime

Plus: What an effort by the Caps. Taking into account the Bruins game yesterday, the Caps have put together a fantastic 48 hours. All you can ask of your team is putting it all on the ice and they’ve done that their last two games. And it was against two of the top teams in the league to boot.

Minus: There’s nothing you can really ding the Caps for. They looked good to great across the board. Three little breakdowns led to the Canucks goals but the Caps are usually making a lot more mistakes than that.

Key Moment: There wasn’t some huge goal or save or hit to really turn things for one team or the other. If you had to pick one then it has to be the rare Connor McMichael turnover that led to the last second overtime goal. It was just a miss communication. Sucks but it happens.

Caps Player of the Game: No one player stood out and carried the team but there were a slew of really good ones. At forward, TJ Oshie looked amazing; no idea what we did in Minnesota to heal but hope he visits there every week. Rasmus Sandin, on defense, looked great at both ends of the ice, including a nasty deke at the blue line to create a prime scoring chance he shot just wide.

Final Thoughts: Like I said, if the Caps play every game like they have the last two the fans can only be proud. Where this team was all season is an unknown, but it’s nice to see them, hopefully, close out the season with this type of effort.

The Canucks are the highest scoring team in the NHL and the Caps did a really good job minimizing their chances. The Caps weren’t perfect, no team is, but considering how the Caps have been all season it was impressive improvement than what we’ve seen.

And of course, no matter if it’s a win or loss, Ovechkin getting a goal is a huge W. It was lucky but he’s hit about 100 posts this season and have had a couple goals waved so he’s owed some lucky goals. He’s on pace for 20 goals, which is a breath of fresh air considering he was on pace for like 12 goals just a month ago. There is concerning news though as Ovechkin was not on the bench in overtime so we’ll wait to see what happened.
