The Washington Capitals seem to love going into extra time these days, but as long as they keep collecting points, we’re not going to complain…too much. Tonight it was another overtime victory for the good guys, executed by the one, the only, Alex Ovechkin, who broke a 14-game goalless drought with his game-winning tally.

Plus: Alex Ovechkin finally scored a goal. That’s it, that’s the tweet.

Minus: The Caps were apparently looking for a repeat of last night, taking a 2-1 lead late into the third period and giving up the tying goal to force overtime. They pushed hard at the end of regulation to try and save it, but it didn’t work and they had to play extra hockey for the second night in a row.

Key Moment:

Caps Player of the Game: Alex Ovechkin seems like too easy of a choice for this one, so we’ll go Anthony Mantha. Mantha scored his eight and ninth goals of the season tonight for his second multi-goal effort on the year. Even without Connor McMichael, who seems to have helped unlock something with Mantha this season, he looked confident as ever out on the ice.

Final Thoughts: The constant trips to overtime? Not great! Alex Ovechkin breaking his goal drought? Absolutely makes up for that tonight! It’s hard to decide which vibes were better, Ovi scoring number 828 or the whole team jeering at Elvis Merzlikins in the celly afterwards…

Up next for the Capitals: a meeting with the Lightning back in DC this Saturday, December 23 at 7pm ET for their last game before Christmas.
