Plus: Sixth game in a row with an Alex Ovechkin goal is and continues to be the best thing happening around the Caps right now.

Minus: The second half of the second period was…forgettable.

Key moment: The Beck Malenstyn goal in the first period. The team needed a response in the first and it was a dirty goal near the front of the net to get them back in it.

Player of the game: Beck Malenstyn. Noticeable throughout the game. He had the first goal for the Caps and four hits.

Final thoughts: The start of the game looked like a “here we go again” kind of game. But the team fought back and tied it up while looking solid. The Avalanche went back to being the better team in the second and the Capitals had to chase the rest of the game. On a positive note though Ovechkin seems to have his scoring touch back.
