The Noon Number: 0 – Number of games in which the Capitals have gotten a point this season when they have had a negative special teams goal differential (i.e. their opponent’s power-play and penalty-killing units combined to outscore the Caps’).
In their five wins and one overtime loss, the Caps have outscored their opponents in other-than-even-strength play four times and been even twice, and in the seven games in which they have a negative special teams goal differential (including last night against the Rangers), they’re 0-7-0.
Including last year’s playoffs, the Caps have lost the last dozen games in which they’ve had a negative special teams goal differential, and haven’t won one of those games since a shootout win last March against the Islanders.
