Capitals @ Kraken Recap: Caps Squeak By In 2-1 Win For Important Playoff Push

Plus: If you’re fighting for the Caps to make the playoffs then tonight was a huge plus. A lot of teams lost that were able to give the Caps a chance to catch up. If they end up making the playoffs then tonight will be a game they’ll look back on.

Minus: It’s hard to find anything to really hate on for the Caps tonight. They were sloppy at times for sure but you have to remember they played the night before while the Kraken were resting up. It’s always a uphill battle not being able to rest, especially for an older team. And the Caps did nothing so severe that it’s worth noting.

Caps Player of the Game: Connor McMichael is an easy answer for his breakaway goal but Ivan Miroshnichenko was maybe the most noticeable Cap tonight. He was laying out hits, back checking, and had a couple ripper of shots. If a puck didn’t bobble on him last second he could have had a goal as well.

Three Takeaways:

  • Both Caps goals were unassisted goals after Kraken’s turnovers. Too lazy to look it up but wonder last time Caps won on unassisted goals.
  • It’s good to get Nic Dowd, Martin Fehervary and Alexei Protas back from injury but you can tell they are still feeling it. Fehervary looked much better after the Edmonton Oiler’s game, which was a rough one for him, but Dowd and Protas were not their usual selves tonight.
  • TJ Oshie played in his 999th game tonight. It would have been cool as hell if it was his 1000th’s game in basically his home town. Still, he’ll be able to hit the milestone in Vancouver, which is pretty close to home as well.
