Plus: The Washington Capitals are in a playoff spot for the first time since January 2. The 2023-2024 Washington Capitals are in a playoff spot.

Minus: Does anyone know what goaltender interference is? No? Cool, just thought we’d check. RIP to Charlie Lindgren’s 89:30, 37-save shutout streak.

Key Moment: Alex Ovechkin’s second (power play) goal of the game put the Capitals up 3-0, and it ended up being the game-winner. After 19 seasons, you’d think teams would stop leaving him so wide open on the man-advantage…

Caps Player of the Game: After scoring career goals 842 and 843, it has to be Ovechkin. Tonight was also Ovi’s 170th career multi-goal game. Fun fact per Capitals PR—Dustin Wolf is the fifth new goalie Ovechkin has added to his list of goalie victims this season. For those of you keeping track at home, that’s 174 different goalies that Ovechkin has scored on throughout his career.

Final Thoughts: In what was pretty much a must-win scenario for the Capitals with respect to their playoff hopes, they stepped up and earned the victory. Tonight’s game was a solid effort from everyone on the team, which is exactly what needed to happen.

Up next for the Capitals: heading back to Capital One Arena to face the Maple Leafs this Wednesday, March 20 at 7:30pm ET for the Capitals’ annual Pride Night!
