capitals does lots of effort to win the game.

CapsFan75

We may be down to 17 skaters for today, also. Ovi was not at morning skate and is a “game time decision”. I presume TVR and Oshie are still out, as TVR would be out for more than a week and less than a week as elapsed since that was announced.. Mantha is definitely out but “day to day”.

So uh… Is it just me, or has Kuemper been kind of awful lately?

Like, don’t get me wrong, the team as a whole has been pretty bad and he’s certainly not the only reason they’re losing… But aside from the Isles game where he put up a .966, his save percentage hasn’t been over .900:

MTL: .839
NYR: .853
TBL: .879
NYI: .966
PIT: .900

Like, those last three especially strike me as honestly kind of atrocious. Not that Lindgren has been any better; he’s .821/.875/.852/.889/.850 in his last five.

Are the Caps so bad at this point that they’re making their goalies look awful? Or are the goalies a big part of why the Caps are so bad? I felt like the netminding had been a strength throughout most of this season, but not so much lately…

RockingRed843

I’m gonna say its a combination of both plus end of year not caring doldrums. We have pretty much a new D corp and they need to gel and find which pairs work well together. This in turn leads to poor D sometimes and those chances are higher quality. Some can be stopped, some cannot. Of those that can be stopped, our Gs dont. Hard to watch but they’re still my team.

X90

Lord only knows why the kids aren’t playing. The season is over – why on earth would they not play McMichael, Iorio, Johansen, even LaPierre despite his struggles. Get these kids some NHL ice time. Baffling.

TheRealOtreblig

Because they’re not allowed to bring them up

RockingRed843

Contract limits? NHLPA rules?

The Russian mobster

Why would they not be allowed to play their younger players?

CapsFan75

Caps have very little cap space for bringing up anyone else except when it’s an emergency. The injured guys are not hurt enough to go on LTIR.

gfcapsfan

I don’t think you can even use LTIR once there are less than 10 games/24 days left in the season.

CapsFan75

I didn’t realize that was a rule. So even if a guy breaks a leg at this time of year, they can’t put him on LTIR?

I know the guys’ current injuries are likely not LTIR worthy.

gfcapsfan

Interesting question that I don’t know the answer to. But probably not.

X90

that is incredibly stupid. must be the only professional sport where playing guys from the junior ranks has this type of restriction.

I’ll have to read more into it.

capsyounggunsnew

So I recovered my cyg gmail account and set up a new wordpress account. I’m still not linked but at least I’ve recovered, verified, and created new passwords. When JR is ready to link I should be ready to link my accounts. When I’m linked my new name will be capsyounggunsnew to differentiate it from my old cyg name.

Old dog chasing its tail!!!????

Happiest person from the game last night? Probably Strome. His 20th goal probably kicked in an incentive bonus in his contract.

TheRealOtreblig

Strome probably thought coming here would change his rep from being a point compiler on a crummy team to a stalwart on a contender. But alas… he’s a point compiler on a crummy team again.

gfcapsfan

Only entry level and 35+ contracts can have bonus clauses.

He already got his bonus – the new contract that starts next season.

what should be a thrilling matchup between two non-playoff squads!

This didn’t age well. Looks/sounds like they’ve checked out for the summer.

Yinzer.

It was thrilling for Montreal alright.

Call me a bad fan, but I forgot this game was on. Then turned it on, and just did not care to watch. Wish we had got an Ovi goal, but other than that, I cannot get up for the remaining games.

David Rose

There is nothing about anything you mentioned that makes you a bad fan. We are not obligated to watch even a single game, let alone all 82. If the team is garbage, why subject yourself to it? They can barely be bothered to show up. It doesn’t make you less of a fan.

“If the team is garbage, why subject yourself to it?”

If you cannot love them at their lowest, you cannot enjoy them as much at their best. That is why.

David Rose

Loving a team and watching every game as they founder are different things. I haven’t watched regular season religiously since the 16&17 seasons. I’ve seen enough regular season dominance.

I still follow, chat, want them to do better than they are, and will continue to do those things.Watching the actual games is just one part of it. I stopped watching these clown show games back in March. I’ll be watching next season, but if they are bottom-dwellers again then soon enough I’ll be right back to where I am now. I won’t be wasting my time or energy or money on it.

Putting more passion into it than the players are is just a recipe for letdown.

And honestly the highs are just as high without these agonizing lows.

I was annoyed enough with the game yesterday to donate most of my remaining home game tickets which is something I don’t generally do. I donated Monday’s tickets. Can’t yet donate Thursday’s tickets. (Generally, I make most games but give away or sell when there’s a conflict.)

I figure we’ll go to Saturday’s game anyhow since at least we can have dinner beforehand.

Wild_Oates_77

Really ugly game…I had to switch to Michigan vs. Quinnipiac after Montreal’s second short-handed goal. Go Bobcats!

OldPhil

Same here.

Chriscaps

Did I miss anything? Oh yea, we’re going to be tied for 8th once Vancouver beats Chicago!

CapsFan75

Tonight’s game was so bad that I decided to donate my tickets for next week’s games. Already got rid of Monday’s tickets. And I’ll probably give away Thursday’s tickets as well and skip Fan Appreciation Day. I’ll go to Saturday’s game.

GregS

That was fugly.

CapsFan75

Giving up not just one shortie but TWO shorties to a very bad team like Montreal. (Frankly, the way they’ve looked in the second half of the season, they’ll be a bottom five caliber team for 2023-24. I’m starting to worry about how productive even Ovi will be next season.)

GregS

Ugh!

Yinzer.

What a great game. Get that top 10 pick

CapsFan75

If next year starts off like this year is ending, the Caps will unquestionably be a Bottom Five team.

steel canuck

Yes, it was a great game!!!!

Yinzer.

Hey Canuck; I’ll badmouth you in the SNOT over this. Neither of us are playoff quality teams.

steel canuck

Bring it lol

Yinzer.

I’m already at an unfair advantage because you write the dang article for it.

Chriscaps

We just tied you for 8th pick! We’re not planning to get another point. You?

Yinzer.

Just a bit late. I’ll take it thought, it’s better than nothing. Boys played well that period.
