The shorthanded Caps take on the taxi squad Bruins in a semi-preview of their upcoming first-round series

With playoff seeding set and the postseason scheduled to begin Saturday, tonight’s game is, for the most part, simply a means of rounding out the 56-game set and hoping no one (else) in red, white and blue gets hurt.

There is a hint of intrigue in the matchup, of course - once the Caps wrap up the regular-season finale against the Bruins, they’ll be looking ahead to a first-round series against those very same Bruins. But with essentially their entire lineup sitting out to rest, this one becomes about the Caps vs. some laundry (and perhaps a chance for players on both sides to pad some season stats).

But there’s something to be said for a little low-intensity hockey with the adrenalin-filled postseason right around the corner, right? Should be fun!

More on the game from today’s Clips:

  • Here are previews of tonight’s playoff tune-up against the Bruins from Vogs, Peerless, and NoVa Caps, and for one last time (until this weekend) be sure to visit our SB Nation pals over at Stanley Cup of Chowder for the view from Beantown.

Have at it, babes!
