The Noon Number: Get Shorty

A look at a rare goal-scoring feat by the greatest goal-scorer of all time

541 - Number of goals scored by Alex Ovechkin between his fourth career shorthanded goal and his fifth. Up until yesterday, to find Ovechkin’s last shorthanded goal you’d have to go all the way back in January of 2009 (also against the Rangers).

That changed last night when he jumped on the ice and picked up his second goal of the night with five seconds remaining on a New York power play... and ending a 914-game shorthanded drought.

Quite the goal to move into sole possession of fifth all-time, no?
