The Noon Number: Special Order

140 – The Capitals’ combined power play (40%) and penalty kill (100%) effectiveness in Saturday night’s win over the Dallas Stars. Tom Wilson and Evgeny Kuznetsov each struck with the extra man as the Caps went 2-for-5 on the power play, while the penalty killers did their job at the other end, taking care of all six man advantages for Dallas.

Per Mike Vogel, Thursday night marked the 39th time in franchise history that the team has cashed in multiple times on the power play while keeping their opponent scoreless through at least six opportunities. The last time it happened was way back in October 2010, in a 7-2 victory over the Flames.

So far this season the Caps are clicking at an impressive (and more sustainable) 109.7 overall. Back-to-back two-goal outings have bumped the team’s power play up to 24%, while the penalty kill has done its job, killing off all but three of their 21 times shorthanded.
