Ah, the second period! Or as Caps fans would call it, Le Deluge!
Just sixty-one seconds into the second frame, O Captain My Captain Alex Ovechkin put the Capitals on the board. After Marc-Andre Fleury got caught the big red wash, he finally made his way back to the crease, where John Carlson took a whack at the puck. Fleury made the save, but didn’t count on Big Number Eight taking a diving backhand hack and chipping it into the back of the net.
Then, roughly halfway through the frame, Evgeny Kuznetsov, The Boy Who Lived, scored. Leading a 3-on-1 off of an all-heart T.J. Oshie turnover, Kuzy called his own number, ripping a snipe under Fleury’s armpit to lift Washington to a 2-0 lead after two.
Third period ahead…
