The Noon Number: Tough Competition, Tougher Results

A look at the Capitals' early-season struggles against the League's best teams

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

1 - Number of wins the Caps have so far this season against the League's top-ten teams. That one win (which gave the Caps a split against overachieving Calgary) stands against four regulation losses (Detroit, St. Louis, Tampa and Vancouver) and two overtime/shootout defeats (Montreal and Calgary). By contrast, the Caps have (only) gone 6-4-0 against the League's bottom-ten teams.

The Caps will get two more cracks at a top-ten team when they face the Islanders in a home-and-home sandwiching Thanksgiving starting tomorrow night.
