The Noon Number: Powerless

A look at a rare night of combined extra-man futility

Eric Bolte-USA TODAY Sports

14 - Number of combined power-play opportunities (seven apiece) in last night's Caps/Jackets game, the most in a Capitals game that didn't feature a power-play goal since March 2, 2003 (in which Washington was 0-for-6 and Carolina 0-for-8). Interestingly enough, that game was the second time in less than two weeks that that occured (February 22 versus Detroit), and that was the first time since before the start of the 1997-98 season.

Additionally, the Caps' 0-for-7 was their first goose egg with as many attempts since... well, Saturday night's 0-for-8.
