The Noon Number: Forward Motion

5 – Number of Capitals’ forwards who have scored at least 15 goals this season, tied with Pittsburgh, Minnesota and Winnipeg for the most in the League. All five of those players – Alex Ovechkin (26), T.J. Oshie (23), Marcus Johansson (19), Justin Williams (18) and Nicklas Backstrom (17) – have scored at least 17 goals; only Pittsburgh has as many.

In total, 10 of the Caps’ 12 forwards have hit double-digits in goals. That’s tied with the Wild for tops in the NHL, and the Caps trail only the Wild when it comes to double-digits at even strength (8 of their 10 have at least 10 even-strength goals, compared to 9 of Minnesota’s 10).

It’s also the most forwards with double-digit goal totals for a Caps team since 1994, and the second-most in franchise history (they’ve had 11 forwards with at least 10 goals just four times, and none since 1987).

All told, the Caps have gotten 172 goals from their forwards – unsurprisingly, that total leads the NHL as well, with the team currently tied with Pittsburgh for the most goals scored this season overall at 191.
