Capitals Lunchbox, Season 2, Episode 14
In which Alan May, Kellie Cowan and I talk about what the Caps are doing right lately, the notion that having to fight for a playoff spot is actually a good thing, and the upcoming trade deadline. Dig it.

You could easily fit one more person on that set.

Winning trophies on your home field? DC United's done that. Twice. Help Keep United in DC so they can receive a fair deal on a lease and help develop a path to build a stadium with local investment and incentives.
Good stuff, as ever. Kind of tough to tell whether Alan is pro-trade or not, though.
In the end it doesn’t matter, as Alan announced we will be winning the division with such assuredness that there’s no way he could be wrong. No, seriously. You think that man is wrong?

All I know is I don’t envy George McPhee right now. Everyone was giving him high praises for his pickups last summer, and now seemingly everyone is slamming him for some of the “flops”, like Hamrlik and Ward. Who honestly could’ve anticipated Hamrlik would’ve had that poor of a start to the season?
Picking up Wideman, 1st rounder for Broewer, Varly for a 1st rounder, and Vokoun for $1.5 mil were all great moves in the past year. I suppose the jury is still out on Hamrlik and Ward.

I’m pretty comfortable with the Hamrlik move, frankly. Certainly not a flop in my book.
Jury’s out on Ward, but I think part of that is on the player and part on the coaches for how they’re using him. I’m still hopeful that he turns out to be a good pick up.

Obligatory Ward-in-playoffs argument.

I’m guessing Modano-Richards-Ribiero, but didn’t follow-up on the point.
