Agreed. If we want an expensive veteran, we could keep Theo. If we want a cheap veteran, we could talk to Theo and see what he thinks. I don’t get the concept that we’d bring in someone who’d have a bigger cap hit. And Neuvy’s been looking real good in the Calder Cup finals.
I’m in agreement. I don’t see what’s wrong with keeping Theo (if we can get him cheaper, of coruse) if we decide that we are in desperate need of a veteran goalie.

Because apparently Theo isn’t even on the list of free agents worth acquiring by anyone.
Haven’t we learned by now that Garrioch is a hack? There are so many things wrong with that article.

Garrioch is like that bad accident on the side of the road that you know you shouldn’t look at but you can’t help yourself. Larry Brooks is Nostradamus compared to the Bloated Bruce.
The only person in the NHL rumor mill that Garrioch makes look bad is Eklund… but then most anyone can make Eklund look bad…

If you are a rubbernecker, you deserve to be put up against the wall and shot directly in the face. You do the world no service, and your genetic makeup is no longer necessary, or desirable, for the gene pool. Also, nuke Delaware.

I didn’t even bother clicking…as if the Caps are going to go after Gonchar.
An aging defenseman who has slowed down considerably, who has resorted to more dirty play because he can’t keep up, and whose only strength is power play scoring. Of course, there’s always his oh-so-creative “shoot from the point every damn time” method…
I don’t see what’s wrong with keeping Theo (if we can get him cheaper, of coruse) if we decide that we are in desperate need of a veteran goalie.
The problem is that he’s not going to sign for the entry-level type deals that Neuvy and Varly are playing on. Even if he takes a massive paycut (he’s going to regardless, but bear with me) to 1.5 million per season, he’s still going to cost more than either goalie unless they hit all of their bonuses, which would mean a Vezina or a Conn Smythe (which I think we’d all happily take). I don’t see him as being substantially better than either of the kids at this point. Certainly not as much better as his contract, whatever it ends up being, will pay him for.
In summary: It’s time for the kid-combo.

I don’t disagree. I love Theo, but I think the kids will do fine next season. I was more suggesting if the Caps (that is, management) decided that for some reason they did indeed need a veteran goalie. If they decide they don’t need one, obviously it wouldn’t make sense.

all these washington capitals jersey fouls and not one of them is a japers’ rink reader willing to fess up?
I’ll admit I have a personalized jersey w/ a “C” on it… I’m not proud of it but it was a Christmas Gift from my family.
Look at me, Dustin! I'm a F%^king Icon!
I’ve got a personalized Oilers jersey with my name, number, and an “A”, but it was for house league.

There were a couple around during the season, mostly folks who get to the game once in awhile and break out the cheap Jagr jersey they bought in 2004…

Exactly how many gingers are on the Bears at this point? I’m seeing a lot of red playoff beards.
John Carlson - Glory follows him.
Red beards are pretty common unless you’re really dark brown haired. I’ve got dirty blonde to light brown hair and a red beard when grown out.

Our next shutdown defenseman?
Alzner said he’s enjoyed watching the battle between defense partner John Carlson and Stars forward Jamie Benn, who’s been held without a goal in the series. "Benn’s working hard," Alzner said. "I think Carly is doing a great job on that right side with him. He’s limiting a lot of his opportunities.
Carly?

Wonder what Alzner’s nickname is? Alznery or Alzy sounds weird. Maybe he also goes by Karly?

Bears game note: With 38 points tonight, Alexandre Giroux will become the AHL’s all-time leading playoff scorer. http://bit.ly/ahka2L #hbh
I’m gonna guess that being the AHL’s all-time leading anything is not what a player would necessarily want on his resume.
"It hit me on the pants. I had protection. It felt good. Why? I wanted to win."
So… he needs 38 points to claim the title? I’d say that’s a tall order, even for Alex Giroooooooooooux.

Giroux has been getting paid to play a game that kids play…and paid damn well by most people’s standards. NHL or not, if you love playing the game, getting paid to do it cant be a bad thing. IMO, Giroux has nothing to be ashamed of….

Thought he would be with the Bears? back in Canada?
If you want to survive out here, you've got to know where your towel is.
Tim Leone’s story said they sent him home since he wasn’t going to play and the Caps wanted him to rest up for development camp.
rest up for development camp. skate the ever-loving crap out of Dmitry Krugyshev in preparation for development camp. No one like Herbies becoming Hurlies.

Lines:
Bourque-Aucoin-Gordon
Giroux-Perreault-Beagle
Bouchard-Wilson-Eakin/Rome
Kane-Joudrey-Pinizzotto
D-pairs:
Alzner-Carlson

And put into perspective what we consider “failed” drafts. There have been misses here and there (and an entire draft year we’d all like to forget, for many reasons) but the Caps have stockpiled a tremendous group of prospects.
The fact that we can easily toss around a half-dozen guys who could challenge for roster spots – and can do so a few years in a row – is amazing. I just don’t see that depth in a lot of other teams.
It just makes me ax “why is Don Waddell employed?” over and over again

In order for Atlanta’s ownership to know he’s doing a bad job, they’d have to have watched a hockey game. Ever.
I really feel for Thrashers fans, putting up with that disaster of a franchise – every big star or potential franchise player they’ve ever had has either been a bust or hightailed it out of there as soon as they could. They’ve got some good kids now but what’s to say they don’t follow Heatley, Hossa and Kovalchuk out of town their first chance?
They rarely get it but Thrashers fans who have stuck with that team deserve major, major respect.
I just imagine how good they could be if they actually had someone competent running their drafts. I mean, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and the Caps built themselves up pretty quickly with Top 5 picks. These guys have pretty much had Top 10 picks every year since 1999.
I mean, its gone 1 pick, 2 pick, 1 pick, 2 pick, 8 pick, 10 pick, 16 pick, 12 pick, no pick till third round, 3 pick, 4 pick.

I think that’s a bit unfair. Patrik Stefan is a bit of a head scratcher maybe, but if you look at the 1999 draft, it’s not full of stars at the top, it was probably a good pick at the time. Kovalchuk, Heatley speak for themselves. Heatley had to leave town because of something the GM couldn’t prevent, fatal car accident that never should’ve happened. Kari Lehtonen was and perhaps remains a super-talent that just caught a bad break with back injuries. You know what them back injuries can do… Atlanta would’ve picked Ovy and Sid had they had the first pick and chi, pitt, was would’ve probably taken kovy, heatley, lehtonen.
according to NHL.com
Game 6 of the Final on NBC was the most-watched (8.28 million) and highest-rated NHL game (4.7) on U.S. television in 36 years.
I know it’s probably easier to track viewing data the last few years now that digital cable has pretty much completely taken over the old crappy cable boxes … but I wonder if that same technology causes flaws. I mean… Comcast probably reports their stats based on who’s for their cable box on what channel at what time.. but seriously.. I bet almost all of us here with Comcast-Motorolla boxes just turn off our TV sets and leave our cable boxes on all day. …
Then I wonder if they count people who record stuff and watch later.
I have to believe the ratings numbers are extrapolated from sampling, because as you say, there are elements like cable-on-tv-off to worry about.
