Capitals Prospects in the World Juniors
Here's a quick look at players in the Washington Capitals system who will (or could) be making their way to Saskatoon and Regina (the city that rhymes with fun), SK, for the 2010 World Junior Championship, beginning on Boxing Day (December 26th) and concluding on January 5th. Stats are year-to-date with each player's respective club.
Final rosters for all of Canada, Sweden, and the United States will include Caps prospects. Two Caps draftees remain on Russia's preliminary roster, which appears to still need a bit of trimming. As linked earlier this week, Puck Prospectus provides a nice preview of the tournament.
Canada
Russia
Sweden
Last summer's first round pick will also captain the Swedish squad.
United States
All of these young gents rank within the top 15 Capitals prospects, according to Hockey's Future's summer rankings.
Sixteen games, including all Team USA games, will be televised in HD on the NHL Network, with Gary Thorne, Dave Starman and Fred Pletsch as your broadcast crew.

Makes me want to put on my Backstrom Tre Kronor jersey.
I’m excited to see what these kids can do in North America next year.
My ability to post is only surpassed by my ability to pinch pennies.
Saw a blonde chick on the metro with a Backstrom Tre Kronor on yesterday. Pretty sweet jersey.
In an ideal world all ten fingers would be on my left hand so my right hand could just be a fist for punching.
Maybe (doubtful). If it were I would have definitely said hi, but as it was I just appreciated the jersey from afar and made my way to the game.

I’m not a blonde don’t own a Tre Kronor jersey and I most definitely weren’t on the metro in Washington yesterday. I were however on a train going from Stockholm to Gothenburg sporting a red Caps tuque and was reading Gabby. Unfortunately no one approach me and started to talk about the greatness that is Jeff Schultz so I’m guessing there weren’t any rink rats/rabbits on board.
Nice. Were we not so limited in AP photography . . .

I’m especially excited to see Orlov and Johansson – I feel like I have a fairly good grasp on what the other three bring to the table, but the other two are kind of unknowns with a lot of potential. The little I saw of Orlov this summer was impressive, and I’ve heard only good things about our next Swedish center in training…
I posted about an interview with Orlov last week.
And here’s a fairly recent Farjestad fan chat with Marcus.

FYI – Gary Thorne is no longer doing the games. JP Dellacamera is taking over for him.

A man gotta have a code
Though I like Thorne, as a card-carrying member of the JP Union, I can make no further comment on this change.

wasn’t johansson like the 7th swede and the 2nd swedish center taken in the first round this year? obv hedman is ineligible, but are the other draftees on the WJC roster? cool that mackan gets captain over other prospects.
I can think of one Swedish pivot from the prior draft that didn’t make the team…

got off my ass and ran the search. jacob josefson was the swedish C i’d been pining for during pre-draft roundups. he was taken by new jersey, and is indeed on the WJC roster. LW magnus pääjärvi-svensson went to the oilers with the 10th overall pick, and he’s also on the roster. mackan is a half-year older than both.

mackan is kind of an afterthought to pääjärvi-svensson in the puck prospectus preview, sadly.

I’m not positive on the exact order but you’re basically right. OEL might not play either, but I’m not sure. There is also Karlsson from OTT and I don’t know if he’s playing. OTT has been jerks about letting SWE know if he is going to be released or not. If OEL and Karlsson don’t play then John Carlson should be the best D in the tournament.
