A piece from the 2018 Stanley Cup-winning team has returned to the fold, as the Capitals have reportedly signed winger Jakub Vrana to a one-year, $775K deal (per @PuckPedia).

Vrana was originally drafted by the Caps in the first round of the 2014 draft, and spent parts of five seasons with the organization – including, of course, the championship season of 2018 – before being traded to Detroit in 2021 in exchange for Anthony Mantha. He initially thrived in his first few weeks as a Red Wing, but his journey has been somewhat up and down since then, including a stint in the AHL and two months in the NHL Players’ Association’s player assistance program.

His most recent NHL action was with the Blues, where he played 41 games over the last two seasons, putting up 12 goals and 20 points over that span. He returned to the Capitals’ organization back in September, joining the team’s training camp on a professional tryout agreement.

“I want to be part of this team. I always love this team, and it’s great to be back here for a camp and try my best to earn the spot,” Vrana noted a few weeks ago as camp got underway.

Welcome back, V!
