The Caps certainly made yesterday’s game interesting. After being down by two with just about two minutes to play, they scored twice to force the game to overtime…where they proceeded to lose. It was an ugly game by the Caps and they were lucky to get any points from it, but for a team in such a rut, getting at least a point before the All-Star break was good for them.
The best news of the game was Alex Ovechkin scoring a goal – and at this point in the season, given how this season has gone, it could be argued that’s almost as important as wins. It’s a good way for him to go into the break, with some confidence, and hopefully come out of it refreshed and ready to pick up the pace in the second half.
Three Takeaways:
- Max Pacioretty left the third period with a lower body injury. Luckily we’ve since learned that it was not his Achilles, which would have been devastating. Hopefully over the break he can get all the rest he needs before getting back out on the ice.
- Rasmus Sandin finally scored his first goal of the season, which is wild to think of since we’re at the end of January. He has been severely snakebitten all season, and should probably have five goals at this point. Hopefully his luck turns going forward with that goal and he starts putting more in.
- One thing we hope to see after this break? Tom Wilson’s face without the bubble shield. You can tell he hates that thing and it’s getting on his nerves, and he hasn’t looked exactly the same on the ice since he put it on.
They Said It:
“It shows character and strength in this team that we come back from 4-2. That’s huge, obviously, but at the same time there’s 60 minutes of hockey … too much time of today that’s not good enough.” – Rasmus Sandin
