Monday afternoon, a handful of original season ticketholders from the Capitals’ inaugural season got their 2024-25 tickets hand-delivered by some familiar faces:
The celebration continued earlier today for these longtime fans, as they were invited to Capital One Arena yesterday for a special “thank you” event from the team for their many years of heartache loyalty. Many of the 36 ticketholders were in attendance with their friends and family, including me and my dad, who attended the team’s first preseason game back in 1974 and – bless his optimistic heart – bought season tickets that same night. And never left.
(His ticket cost per game in 1974, by the way? $6.50 each. Or, y’know, the cost of a bottle of water at the arena these days. Anyway…)
First up, fans got to take in a closed practice at Capital One Arena, where Coach Carbery and the rest of the coaching staff put the boys through their paces:

Practice was followed by a quick visit to the owner’s suite and then a lunch reception and meet-and-greet with Alex Ovechkin, John Carlson, and Tom Wilson. Each original STHer received a gift bag containing a jersey and commemorative box that was signed by the trio of players before joining the fans for pictures:

All in all, a great event to kick off what should be a celebration-packed 50th season for the Caps!
