Capitals vs. Wild Recap: Caps Falter in Twin Cities, 4-2

Mar 27, 2025; Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA; Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin (8) shoots the puck against Minnesota Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson (32) during the first period at Xcel Energy Center. Mandatory Credit: Matt Krohn-Imagn Images

Did Alex Ovechkin score? Nope.

Plus: Nice to see a couple of guys who do a lot of good things but maybe don’t score a whole lot get the team’s first two goals, with Matt Roy opening the scoring for the Caps (his first goal in a little over two months) and Brandon Duhaime setting a new career-high in goals less than two minutes later.

Minus: The Caps were pretty dominant in this one, controlling the puck for large stretches and doing everything but score…and that was the problem. Despite the fact that they had the upper hand in puck possession, everything just seemed a little off, with pucks bouncing over sticks and shots going just wide. And when things went right, either a Minnesota skater or Filip Gustavsson were in the way. Tough one.

Our three stars:
*** Brandon Duhaime (1G)
** Filip Gustavsson (27 saves)
* Matt Boldy (1G, 1A)
