The Capitals kick off the 2025 portion of their schedule tonight, looking to get the new year off to a good start and keep things rolling after a New Year’s Eve matinee win over the Bruins. Their opponent is a rejuvenated Minnesota Wild team that has been duking it out with Winnipeg for the top spot in the Central, although they’ve fallen off a little of late and have struggled with injuries – most notably to high-scoring Kirill Kaprizov, who continues to be sidelined with a lower-body injury.

On this date in 1974: The Caps got a rematch against an Islanders team that beat them 7-0 right before New Year’s…and this time they only lost 5-2. Progress! [Game Notes]
