Plus: Alexander Ovechkin scored. That’s all that matters at this point.
Minus: It might have been a close game by score but the Caps were thoroughly outplayed in just about every facet of the game. They were lucky they got a point.
Key Moment: The Caps scored their first goal of the game and took their first lead on the road trip which was a great step for them but then let Dallas tie it up barely over a minute later. The Stars then took the lead 17 seconds after that. Without that quick response, maybe the Caps could have held the Stars at bay longer.
Caps Player of the Game: No one player stood out in a big way but Sandin was probably the best. He scored his first goal of the season when he should probably have five at this point. He also had a couple great defensive and offensive plays as well. It’s good to get him back.
Final Thoughts: This game was on its way to being an ugly loss until the Caps, in the final two minutes of regulation, clawed their way back to take a point in overtime. They desperately needed something positive going into the All-Star break and they got a little something.
Still, this road trip was supposed to be the test to see where the Caps stood to see if they should sell or buy at the deadline, it’s looking more and more like it will be the former. Maybe the rest will reset some things for the team and help them find a way to string together some wins but their schedule is tough and it won’t be easy.
