Capitals vs. Senators Recap: Chaos Reigns in Caps’ 5-4 OT Loss

Jan 30, 2025; Ottawa, Ontario, CAN; Ottawa Senators center Ridly Greig (71) follows the puck as Washington Capitals center Dylan Strome (17) loses his balance in a battle with Senators center Shane Pinto (12) in the first period at the Canadian Tire Centre. Did Alex Ovechkin score? He sure did! And that, friends, is #876.

Plus: Nice to see Connor McMichael get back on the scoresheet tonight, scoring a beautiful goal on an equally beautiful set-up by (who else?) Pierre-Luc Dubois. Nicer to see Dylan Strome, one game removed from snapping his own goalless drought, getting a pair of very important goals for the Caps.

Minus: Tough to narrow it down, between taking too many penalties to giving up too many odd-man rushes to simply not being able to connect passes and establish offensive zone pressure – but we’ll go with the massive momentum swing in the second that saw the Caps go down 3-1 in the second period. Giving up one shorthanded goal is bad; giving up two on the same penalty is downright embarrassing.

Our three stars:
*** Josh Norris (1G, 2A)
** Dylan Strome (2G)
* Thomas Chabot (1G, 1A)
