In two of their last three games (and a period of that third outing) the Caps have looked flat, disinterested, and just not good. That trend seemed like it would continue into tonight’s game, as they headed into Buffalo to face a Sabres squad that had won eight straight and looked dead on their feet.
That all changed in the second period, when the team – led by a power-play goal from Ryan Leonard – woke up. Sorta. But enough to make things interesting, and honestly at this point that’s all we’re looking for.
Plus: How about Leonard, who has now scored in three straight and has three of the team’s last four goals overall? Kid’s going to be a menace very very soon.
Minus: 9 shots on goal through the first 40 minutes. 9. That is…not a lot.
Caps Player of the Game: Leonard’s goal was great, Jakob Chychrun’s game-winner was a delight, but give this one to Charlie Lindgren who stood very tall to get that win for his team.
