Right this way to your Caps-Wings open thread…

With their overtime victory in New York Wednesday night, the Caps come into tonight’s game on a new winning streak of two games – and now look to add to it, preferably in regulation. Their opponent tonight is a potential first-round opponent, as the Red Wings are currently in the mix (with roughly eleventy billion other teams) for one of the two Eastern Conference Wild Card spots. The Caps will want to treat them accordingly, and perhaps get a little revenge for the last time these two faced off before the new year.

First, some admin stuff:

  • Who: Capitals vs. Red Wings
  • Where: Capital One Arena
  • When: 7:00 p.m.
  • How to Watch: Monumental
  • How to Listen: 106.7, Capitals Radio 24/7

The Caps had an optional skate yesterday so we’ll go with the lines as they were for Wednesday’s win in NYC, with Logan Thompson back in net:

Ovechkin – Strome – Protas
McMichael – Dubois – Wilson
Mangiapane – Eller – Raddysh
Duhaime – Dowd – Frank

Sandin – Carlson
Fehervary – Roy
Chychrun – van Riemsdyk

Thompson
Lindgren

On this date in 1975: The Caps faced the mighty Montreal Canadiens for the fifth time of the season, and for the fourth time in those five games, gave up more than 7 goals – 8, to be exact (although they did score four goals on the Habs for the first time, likely thanks to Ken Dryden having the evening off).
