Plus: Special teams. The power play went 1-2, but the third period penalty kill went 2-2 keeping the Pens from tying the game.

Minus: The second half of the game. Whether the Pens made adjustments or the Caps got sloppy, the Pens looked liked like the better team.

Key Moment: That first goal by Tom Wilson. It’s the start we all wanted.

Caps Player of the Game: Darcy Kuemper. He may have given up 3 goals but after a dominant first period by the Caps, Kuemper faced a flurry of shots multiple times. By the third period the Pens led in shots on net 36-22.

Final Thoughts: The Capitals did all their scoring in the first period. A couple of late period goals from the Penguins in the first and the second made things a little dicey, but the Caps were able to hold behind strong play from Kuemper and take the win in regulation. Also Ovechkin passed Ray Bourque for most points from a player within a franchise.
