Plus: Despite not recording a point, Ryan Leonard stood out. The 20-year-old was buzzing all night with seven shots on goal, and a particularly excellent shift towards the end of the third where he led a flurry that ended with a Rasmus Sandin goal aided by his screen in front. For a team looking for a spark offensively, this was an encouraging sign.

Minus: Similar themes keep recurring in their losses, particularly the special teams play; they were barely able to muster up a shot on their two power play opportunities, while giving up a couple of backbreaking goals when Florida was on the man advantage.

Caps Player of the Game: Sandin’s two points bookended Washington’s goals tonight, assisting on a Brandon Duhaime tap-in in the first before his aforementioned tally in the third.
