The Caps have not looked like themselves since gleefully taking two days off last week, and returning home after a two-game road trip, they needed a big effort to get back on track. They sure got it, getting on the board first and never really looking back.
Plus: In a penalty-filled game, the Caps’ special teams came to play. The penalty killers took care of business on all five Toronto power plays, and while the Caps’ power play didn’t score, they looked very dangerous and could easily have gotten at least one but for some timely saves, goalposts, etc.
Minus: Five penalties is too many penalties. That’s…pretty much it.
Caps Player of the Game: Justin Sourdif was everywhere tonight, Jakob Chychrun scored twice, Logan Thompson turned aside everything he faced…but let’s give this to the veteran, John Carlson, for his three-point night!
