The Caps faced a tough task tonight, taking on a team that has picked up the majority of their wins on the season on the road – nine of their ten coming into this one, in fact. Which is…good. So the hometown team would need to bring their “A” game to not only take on the best road team in the league but also start to climb out of their funk. Mission accomplished, as they got timely scoring and a shutdown defensive performance to take care of business and get a very important two points.
Plus: Great to see former King Matt Roy get the Caps on the board early, picking up his first goal since March 27 (and just his fourth as a Cap). Now, what Roy was doing all alone in front of the net is and will likely remain a mystery…but we’re not complaining.
Minus: There wasn’t a lot to dislike about this one, but another night where they give up a power play goal and fail to score on their own man advantage is never good. Granted, they only had the one chance on the power play to LA’s three – and they actually looked pretty decent on that one chance – but still.
Caps Player of the Game: How about Charlie Lindgren, shaking off some really rough outings to put together an extremely good performance tonight! Welcome back, Outlaw!
