Capitals vs. Hurricanes Recap: Caps Can’t Cut Canes’ Crap in 5-1 Loss

Blech.

Did Alex Ovechkin score? He sure did! Goal #892, breaking Frederik Andersen’s shutout.

Plus: Alex Ovechkin scored, which is always a win. And Leonard looked even more comfortable in his second game, easily the best Capital on the ice for most of the night (low bar) – and if his teammates had been able to finish any of their shots on this night, he probably could have grabbed an assist or two.

Minus: There was a lot not to like about this one, from the leaky defense to the special teams failure to whatever that last 10 minutes of ridiculousness was, so we’ll look at long-term things and the news that Logan Thompson is injured is a big concern. Here’s hoping it’s nothing that takes longer than, say, a week to heal.

Our three stars:
*** Ryan Leonard (1 shot, 3 attempts, 3 hits, general awesomeness)
** Shayne Gostisbehere (2A)
* Jackson Blake (2G)
